Breezeway : In Progress

The Breezeway is unusually large for a pass-through type room. So it is presenting us with a challenge to maximize the utility of the room and not let it go to waste. We started by painting it white to brighten up the room. It looks even larger now! Here is the little progress that we have made...

Before

After

We are planning on adding a funky coat rack..

A deer head...

And some bookshelves to store my husband's amassing collection of books (I have quite a few too...)

Above is the Billy Bookcase from Ikea. We like that they have extenders to make them extra tall ...we are still debating on black, white, or red....
Thoughts?

I'm loving all things Chevron. Including this West Elm rug...
I'd love to hear ideas! (Just kidding about the deer head. Did you really fall for that?)

Missed it? See my sideboard before & after!

Yeah you got me on the deer head. I thought, "REALLY?! Ok, whatever I guess..." Haha. I think you should go with the red bookcases- it'd give it a nice pop of color.

I love that you start with simple black and white and then add the bold colours! That's an awesome coat rack, I hope you find one just like it.

Deer-heads have always freaked me out...but when you said it, I totally didn't even bat an eye. Girl, I swear I have every confidence in you and I figured somehow you'd do it, and it would look kick-ass, and then deer-heads would become the latest hot decor trend! ;)

I think it'll look awesome. I'd stick with the black bookcase and let the bold colored coat rack be the center of attention, it's a much more interesting piece. Can't wait to see it done!!

I just love your blog! I found it a week ago and spent an evening reading it from start to finish. I live in Salt Lake City but am in South Carolina visiting family - I love that your blog gives me a taste of southern charm without eyesore of rusting cars and refrigerators on front porches I've come to associate with my family's small town :)

I love(!) all things West Elm right now. I could drool over their catalogs for hours.

Love the billy bookcase! We have two in our playroom. I love the red but we have the black.

I too am confused about the deer head. My inlaws have 2 that my FIL is very proud of and all I know is that when my dogs see them they go crazy. However, my 4 yr old loved hanging ornaments from the antlers this last Christmas. And I think the red bookcases with the rug would be perfect!

I fell for the deer head. And I was concerned. I would go with either a black bookcase or a red one (but I wouldn't do white, definitely not).

LOL! I was like "doesn't really go there, I hope she knows what she is doing!"
But, yes, I guess you got me. Love your new blog look too. Looks like it's a season at your end!

So here's what I think:
You could do white bookcases, floor to ceiling, and frame them with moulding to make them look like built ins. Then, the breezeway also becomes like a personal library.

Love that coatrack from Urban. You want the teal, or were you thinking a different color?

And NO, I didn't fall for the deer head thing, although have you seen the carboard taxidermy sculptures? I have to admit, I think they're neat!

Another suggestion: You could find some neat storage ottomans to use under that sideboard, that way they're out of the way, add a space for more storage, and seating for putting on/taking off shoes, etc.
