If I knew how to ask for help, this would be it.

I got this gorgeous sideboard (the pictures really don't portray it's beauty accurately enough), a few weeks ago. I have been distracted by my project for So You Think You Can Decorate, which I finished yesterday. Now I really want to get to finishing this piece, but I can't make up my mind.

Originally, I wanted to re-stain the top and white-wash the bottom portion. But, once I started staining it, I didn't want to stop!

What do you think? Are you a wood purist? Should I keep to staining, or perhaps paint it?

stain it! if it is nice enough wood you want to show it off, not cover it up (imo)

OOohh...that's a tough one. I love the way it looks now. But if you painted it white it would give it that shabby chic feel to it. Maybe think about what else you have in the room?! Okay, I so did not help at all.

I guess it would depend what other furniture it is going to be paired with, but for the most part I am a wood purist and would just stain the whole thing.

While I am a fan of white-wash, I'd keep this piece stained. It's beautiful.

I'm a wood purist...but I'm slowly converting to being a painter, I'm afraid. I think it's nice to have a balance of gorgeous dark natural wood and white. They work so beautifully together! For example, we have painted wood trim and super dark floors and a dark table with a white buffet.

But with that gorgeous piece? I'd vote stain it!

It really is beautiful. I don't think you could go wrong either way.
Think about where you are going to put it and if you need a painted piece there.
I'm on the lookout for an accent table and I want to paint it because I think I have too much wood in the room.
Hope this helps:)

That's beautiful and a tough decision. I like stained and painted furiture. I guess it depends where you want to use it. Your little guy is soooo cute. Thanks for visiting earlier. Looks like you had a great birthday!
