To Paint or Not to Paint

That is the question when it comes to Dmitri's playroom.

When we moved into our house, the room that was relegated to him was rather close to the color I had envisioned for his room, which was something along these lines:

But, it's just not the same color.

(The Zebra print is a hint at what the theme for his room is).

So, I have gone back and forth (and back and forth) saying, "no, it's so close, I shouldn't paint it," and then saying, "but, it's just not perfect. And I'm not going to be happy with it if it's not the right color." Insert three months time.

And I'm still at the same dilemma. I don't want to spend time, money, and energy painting something that doesn't need to be painted. But I just can't seem to accept the color.

What would you do?

I'ld use a glaze over it to tone the color down. Not the dirty wall look, just a subtle glaze that would add another dimension to it.

I'd repaint, if you have the time/energy.

Maybe a blue grey color would work for you? We used a color called "Tara" from Ace Hardware that was a nice balance between blue and grey (and went nicely with either white or off-white trim.)

Paint it! It's a cheap fix to make you fully satisfied. :) Plus that grey-blue in the first picture is so dreamy!

I would definitely paint it if it's not the color you had envisioned. I did the same thing when I was redoing our master bedroom. I painted it the color that I "thought" I wanted, but it never really matched with my vision. So I repainted it and now I LOVE it. Even if the color is slightly different, it might make all the difference to you! Keep us posted!

It's a pretty blue, but if it's going to irk you every time you walk in, then you ought to change it. That being said, if you need a break from all of your painting maybe give it a month or two longer? Long enough to recuperate and find the perfect color, but not so long that it becomes a burden on the other project you want to do for his room.

It is a pretty color could you pull in some accessories in lighter colors that will give the feel the you get with the inspiration space?

Definitely re-paint. it's a low cost - high volume change. I think you'll be glad you did. can't wait to see!

Paint it girl!

And then, while you're relaxing, you could do me a favor...

I've entered a contest to win a walk-on role on that retro-licious TV show, "Mad Men".

If you wouldn't mind taking a couple of seconds to vote for me, go to my blog or copy and paste this link, which goes right to my picture:

Thanks a bunch!

Paint it honey! I know how you feel though it's hard to muster up the energy but just start on it and it will be over before you know it!

Luvs!

I say repaint it if feel that way. My son has a blue room too that I would love to paint, but he picked out the color (ugh). The image from Houzz is pretty special - saw it on Janell's post last weekend.

I'm all for painting it. I know I'd be happier once I got exactly what I was going for.

If you're not happy with the colour then I say PAINT! Or choose other items that you love to compensate? Or choose signature pieces of furniture and paint THEM in the colour that you love. Look forward to seeing what you choose!

Paint it! but buy the paint and set it aside for now. Wait for one of those days when you are antsy to do something, but not antsy enough to do something huge like tearing apart a new room. You will already have the paint making it a much easier (and more relaxing) task. While you're painting play your favorite playlist. Tada! think about it, you will not be at ease until it is the color you LOVE and soon he will want to paint his room his own color, or decorate it his own way.

I would definitley paint it. If the look you are going for is a lighter shade of blue you will not be happy with it and eventually paint it anyway. Can I ask though-the inspiration has a magenta colored rug or so it looks on my screen. I'm hoping your not going to put a color like that in his playspace. Now, a zebra striped rug would look awesome!

If it's still bugging you, then paint.

I actually like the color of your wall better. I think the Zebra print looks fab against it, too. Save your money! :0)

I would paint it! You will like it in the end (plus it will be something different for his room)
