It's My Birthday and I'll Cry if I want to...

I never imagined that I would spend my 21st birthday 35 weeks pregnant....with my second child! There will be no partying all night....although the 5-6 trips to the bathroom that I will make seem to indicate that there are more similarities than I thought between how I always envisioned my 21st birthday to go, and how it actually will be. The baby even made sure to give me a birthday gift: new stretchmarks! (I was hoping that the second time around I could skip those...no such luck.)

Despite my cynicism, I am very excited to meet this baby, and to actually celebrate my 21st birthday correctly afterward.

35 weeks

But I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I've cried, just a little. Blame it on the hormones.

Nonetheless, my day started out with getting to sleep in till 8 (which never happens), an extra batch of morning kisses from Dmitri, a cup of tea from Starbucks, and I am really looking forward a special date with the husband!

Here's to being 21!!!

  3. Awww...you look fabulous!!!! Happy birthday!!!
If its any consolation, I spent my 30th birthday with postpartum depression and twins who had just come home and who were attached to my very huge, very sore breasts, oh...and one of them was colicky (4pm-1am...yeah!).

  4. Happy Birthday!!!
If it makes you feel any better, I didn't party on my birthday the way that I had planned. North Dakota has a horrible rule that you can't buy alcohol until 12 noon on your 21st. And it happened that my birthday fell on a Sunday, which is family day here so nothing was open very late anyway. Oh, and bars were out of the question because my husband wasn't 21 yet! So, I celebrated with A drink...and the rest was just good clean fun. It's what you make of it! :)

  9. Happy Birthday! Hope you have a good 21st! If it makes you feel better, I couldn't celebrate my 21st birthday as I had envisioned either, due to having classes and rowing practice twice that day (with a rowing test, too)!

The one thing I remember is at midnight when I turned 21, my husband (boyfriend at the time) woke me up, made me get into the car in the middle of the night, and drove me to the nearest gas station where I bought a six pack of the first beer I saw. To my utter disappointment (I was really excited), the store cashier didn't even card me! He probably thought he was doing me a favor, but I was upset and yelled out (there was a cop right ouside, too) "Aren't you gonna card me?!". I actually forced the cashier card me!

Haha - enjoy your birthday! I'm sure you'll always remember this day fondly!

  14. Happy Birthday!! Even though you don't get to do the typical 21st shenanigans, you are growing a little one inside of you!! I think that way more awesome than what typical 21yr old's do.
Hope you have a great day:)

  21. Happy Birthday! 21 is a big one. And I have to say, between reading this post and your 21 before 21 I'm blown away at how much you've accomplished at such a young age. You're still a baby! (And I mean that not condescendingly, but in an admiring way.) I think it's fascinating because we're doing many of the same things at the same time, yet our backgrounds and life experiences must be so different. I wonder how young moms and older moms differ in their views of motherhood and life in general. Very interesting!

  23. hard to believe you're "only" 21! (I'm 25 so not too much older haha)

Have a WONDERFUL birthday...trust me, building a family is much more special than getting a drink at midnight :) You can get those for the rest of your life!
