Worst Mother Award.

I think I just might deserve it...

As I am making dinner, I can hear Dmitri happily playing in the living room. I walk into the living room as I make a phone call, to see him playing with my bulletin board. (It was propped up against my desk). He has successfully pulled out 3 tacks. And two of them are missing. These are sharp, needle like, and big tacks.

This is the part where I freak out. *Insert Caroline hyperventilating and frantically searching for missing TACKS.*

I found the first tack, IN HIS MOUTH. He was just as happy as he normally is, hanging out with a tack in his mouth. I had to wrangle him to get it. He was very proud of his accomplishment and wanted to keep the prize tack.

But the second tack was no where to be found. I'm ballistic as I call David to say, "I think our son swallowed a tack...I am the worst mom ever...we never should have reproduced...what were we thinking....I'm a failure at life...the world is ending."

I'm balling as I try to find the insurance card, picturing doctors whisking Dmitri away from me for emergency surgery, or life-threatening internal damage...

David calmly tells me to keep looking for the tack. So I take one more peek around the living room. It is no where to be found. Dmitri is staring quizzically at me, wondering why I'm crying so hard that the tears could have competed with the Water Ballet. In one last look before I jump in the car to get David and go to the ER, I found the tack! It was underneath the bulletin board.

And then I start crying all over again....

So scary! I'm glad there was no trip to the ER! You are a good mom....sometimes it's hard to forsee what our little explorers might get into.

I would've freaked out too! A similar freakout situation happened to me while nannying a while back, I looked over at the baby (about 9 mos old) and saw something wet all over her legs and hands; when I went over to her to see what she was playing with I realized it was ANT KILLER!!! The parents had the little packets beside the back door and she grabbed one and played with it...I. about. died. I called poison control freaking out,but they said she was fine...and she was =) But those situations are NO FUN! I'm glad he was okay and that you found the tack! And you are NOT the worst mother in the world...not even close =)

That's scary! So glad no damage was done (except maybe to your nerves). These little ones are so inventive it can be hard to think of every possible danger. We parents try our best but inevitably these things happen.

Cute blog! Thanks for dropping by and for your compliment. I'd love to see you again sometime and I'll be popping in on you.... and sending pregnancy vibes. I seem to be good at that. (I have 5 boys) :)

Oh darling..I feel for you....I have had MANY of those kind of episodes with my little Jacq...and I hate to say it..but I think its worse with boys because they are so inquisitive and curious and always on the go.
I cannot tell you the amount of times I have had heart failure in the space of 1 day...but it gets better and you eventually end up moving and putting away so many things that could potential be a safety hazard.
But this ALL does not make you a bad mother by any means...sometimes the things we would never think for them to do ..they do...you have to cut yourself some slack and believe that you are trying and doing your best. You handled it all as any mother would.
Thanks so much for visiting my blog..I am taking a short break this week but hope you come visit again soon.

Anna x

My girlfriends & I regularly accept MOY awards (Mother of the Year) for just such occasions. These awards come complete w/ the MMG - Massive Mommy Guilt. Because, truly, there is nothing like sarcasm to handle life as a parent. So glad to hear he's okay! Love(!) your quote by Dwight to describe being a parent :)

Yikes! I'm glad this worked out all right in the end. I think we've all had moments like this one as mothers, but somehow, that doesn't make them any less frightening. I would've been crying too!

WOW, I can understand how you were freaking out over the situation, But I'm sorry to say that is not the Worst Mother Award.

I'm not sure the is a Worst mother, but I do have a Runner up for worst mother award.

My Mother! My mother went to a doctor to do cosmetic surgery. She asked the doctor to finance her operations (she had previously loan money to the doctor a couple of years back & as for him to return the favor).

This all takes place in a border town of Mexico & USA/Texas. The doctors does the operations & when it becomes time to make a payment on the loan she hides & stays in Texas. No I own a business in the same Mexican border town. The doctor is tied to one of the local mafia in Mexico.

When he can't find her, he sends his collectors to me to pay the bill. I contact my mother & let her know that they car collection on her debt & want me to pay. She tells me to let them know I have nothing to do with it & let them keep looking for her, they will get tired & give up.

The last statement was the stupidest thing that ever came out of my mothers mouth, "Let them keep looking they will get tired & give up".

We're talking about the MAFIA, they don't get tired & give up. On the contrary we get tired & give up looking for the missing people (jimmy Hoffa, jimmy Hoffa).

No I have the mafia, threatening me to pay or else. While my mother stays in the USA/Texas with out a problem. No my life is in danger along with my wife & family.

I can't just close up shop & leave. My livelihood comes from my business & all the investment I have in it. I can go to the US, but my wife's papers are not approved my homeland security.

That is what you call a Worst Mother, who leaves her only son to pay a debit that is not his & puts his life & his wife & in family at risk with the Mexican Mafia. Especially at this time that there is so much shooting & killing going on.

The surgery was not life threatening do or die; it was Vanity Cosmetic surgery!
