And now, reading rainbow magic:
Harry Potter gets it's own shelf.
So there you have it. My quick little book switch-up.
You might notice that the lower shelves are not allowed to have books; it's for a simple reason known as a toddler.
You also might realize that the bottom shelves of the left book case aren't quite as pretty as the rest of the shelves..despite a lot of whining discussion, I could not change David's mind about not letting me touch his Philosophy books. So, I'll just have to live with it. It's all about compromise (and I love him quite a lot, so he's worth an ugly shelf or two. And the pile of laundry on the floor...etc.)
Aside from Christmas break, summer is the only time that I really make time to read outside of class. I have started a summer reading list that continues to grow faster than I can read. However, I did read the book, The Help, while at the beach, and I really enjoyed it.
Are there any books are your list this summer? Any that I should add to mine?

I love that Harry Potter has its own shelf.
I just read The Book Thief, The Sweetness at the Bottom of a Pie, Someone Knows My Name, and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I highly recommend all of them. The fist and last on the list were my favorite.
I love the books lined up like a rainbow! As for book recommendations, if you're looking for a quick, fun read I just read A Discovery of Witches and I loved it. :)
As an OCD bookworm, your bookshelves make me so happy. Harry Potter also has its own shelf on mine. My fave summer books so far are My Name is Memory and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Very different but very entertaining!
I don't normally go in for organizing books like this, but I must say that I LOVE your bookshelves. They're so cheery and fun.
Beautiful! Love the Harry Potter shelf! On my list for this summer is some Wendell Berry, Outlander series, and From Seed to Skillet.
Soooo fun! Don't think my husband would let me rearrange his theology books either...but I can admire yours :)
I love rainbow colored bookshelves! Beautiful!
The only downfall to my Kindle is not have pretty books around the house!
I love the bookshelves! I saw that on Lady of the Arts as well. I am just compiling my summer reading list now, as my summer does not officially start for another week or so. But yes, too many books for one short summer...
Harry Potter def. gets his own shelf!
Beautiful, it looks great!
I looove your bookshelves!! So bright and cheery!!
Love the bookcase reorganization. As you have the bottom shelves open I suggest you put some kids books down there - nothing is better than having my toddler go over to the bookcase and pick out his own books to read!
If you haven't already read it, I think you'd probably really enjoy The Birth House by Ami McKay. It's about an apprentice midwife in early 20th Century Nova Scotia (my home province) and her struggles to maintain a tradition in the face of "progress". Given your interest in women's studies and birth alternatives, I think you might like it.
Also, I just love your library! We've recently moved to a house where we finally have all (well, OK, most) of our books in one spot with a cozy loveseat and fireplace. It's our favorite room! And, I can commiserate about the Philosophy books; my DH was a Phil major and several shelves of our library and dedicated to this topic :)
Butterfly in the sky...I used to want LeVar Burton's job. Scratch that, I still do.
I'm going to try to get to some children's books this summer (Secret Garden, Little House series). I miss them.
I was clearing out old bookmarks on my computer and ran across one for an old post of yours. I'm so glad I found you again and now - three years later - I have the whole follow in reader thing figured out so I won't miss a thing. I am your newest follower and look forward to your creative motivation. :)

I LOVE this! I started doing it with Adam's books the other day and got tired. It looks great!
I forgot the story of your shelves. Where did you get them?
It looks pretty, I love the colors. :) I am such a horrible reader but I am determined to read a book this summer. :) I did manage to read the Twilight series a couple years ago, I was so proud. :)

Oooh, so pretty!
I don't have any good recommendations, as the only thing I've read lately is the Twilight series. lol
gorgeous!!! you're inspiring me to do the same, but i recently noticed that we have a LOT of red books... odd, because it's the only red in the house!
what a difference! i always sort of make fun of people who color code their books, but i have to admit that i love this. so much fun.

Wow, what a difference that made! So pretty all color coordinated like that.
I love the rainbow shelves! It looks so pretty. I had never thought of that before! and I like Harry Potter's own shelf :) I now feel inspired to switch up my bookshelves!
I really am enjoying your blog - new follower! :)
