Rocking on the porch....

It's been a bumpy last couple days with a lot of ups and downs. I had a wonderful girls weekend in Atlanta with two of my best friends, also known as my sister-in-laws! We did the Ikea & Atlantic Station stops, as well as ate a lot of yummy food, and drank too much coffee. I am so lucky to have such great sisters, who else can I talk about BOOBS with? ; )

On Sunday, David and I achieved a monumental moment as new parents by going on our first date since Dmitri was born. That was so weird. I teared up before, during, and after (Let's recap the birth process: baby, placenta, guilt, and the ability to cry at anything and everything). But in the end it was really nice to be able to actually hold my husband's hand, not have to eat in shifts, and have an uninterrupted adult conversation (who knew there was such a thing!)

Yesterday, however. Oh man. I tried to keep Dmitri entertained (he was fussy all day...sigh) while writing a paper that was due today. To put it bluntly, it sucked.... It's nearly impossible to focus when a baby is grabbing your leg, trying to climb to get to you and crying every five minutes. I should slap myself for having thoughts along the lines of "can my life get any worse..." Because, then, late last night, Dmitri unplugged my computer while I was working on my paper, and deleted about 1/3 of it. It was one of those days when I question my existence, my life, meaning, and relationships, which is what happens when I get really pissed off, exasperated, and have no real answers on how to make my life work.  In the end, I finally finished it this afternoon. Sigh of relief.

But, it's strange the things that can cheer me up. The UPS man brought me tile samples. Yep, that's all it takes. So next time I'm in a bad mood....just ship some glass tile. Here is what I want to use in the kitchen: I know the subway tiles are all the rage, and I think this a nice little play on that style. (They are 1" x 2").

30 days and we will officially own our farmhouse! I cannot wait to start renovating and making it our own...But most of all, I can't wait to sit out on the porch with ferns, a rocking chair, and some sweet tea. I can't help it, I'm a southern girl from Alabama!

Awww that does sound like a bad day! But I'm glad you were able to cheer up! And that front porch looks amazing! If anyone can get their own porch to look like that it would be you!! But I bet you make yours look even better than the picture! I can't wait to see what you do to the farm house!

Glad the tiles made your day better. Stinks your day was so rotten. I can't imagine grad school with a baby. I admire you for being about to do it! Oh, and congrats on the house. I can't wait to watch you turn it into a beauty...your descriptions along make me wish I lived further out.

I love that tile. I'm still trying to figure out what to do for a back splash. It's only been a year now. Sorry about your bad day. Sometimes I want to run away, if only for a few hours. That's exciting about your house. I love my front porch and the time we spend on it as a family.

I'm glad your day had a happier ending! I can't wait to have my hammock chair up so I can sit on my back porch sipping some sweet tea!

Even bad days have silver linings, like pretty porches and lovely shiny glass tiles! And although my children are too old to unplug the computer, my border collie often flops herself under my desk and hits the button on the power strip...poof all of my writing is gone, so I've learned to save often!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kat :)
