I feel as if I have moved to a new house. On a whim, we re-arranged nearly every room in the house, except for the toilet perhaps. The flow and function of our house has been quite lacking, and we have been feeling rather bothered by the layout. It is difficult for entertaining, and while not lacking in space (honestly, I do not think I would ever want a larger home than this one at 1700 square feet. Perfect, in my opinon), we were not fully taking advantage of the space.
So after two years in our home, we suddenly re-arranged all of the rooms, and are falling in love with our farmhouse all over again. Sometimes, one does not need something new or different, but just a change of view while working with what you have. And so, our sunroom is now our living room, our living room is now our dining room, the library, which was serving as our dining room (but was miles from the kitchen), is now the office/computer space. Only the kitchen and bathroom stayed how they are.
And all of this has led us to two things that I have wanted for a very long time- a cozy living room and a giant dining room table (big enough for lots of little ones, friends, and family to gather around for a meal).
You can view the original floorplan of our house here on floorplanner. We had moved our table into the library so that we could fit the leaf in it, and then we really were walking from far ends of the house from the kitchen to the table. No wonder we left so many plates sitting after meals....
The living room was really too big and poorly laid out to function as a living room, but I think a massive farmhouse table will be quite happy in there.
Did I mention a farmhouse table? In the works! If you scour my Pinterest, you just might be able to find the inspiration. (And my scour, I mean, that is a direct link.) The wood is procured and cut. I can't wait!
And somehow all of this came out of a rainy Sunday afternoon, when we had spent a bit too much time inside.
(Before and after photos coming soon.)
